I was wrestling around with my 12 yr old and grabbed him from behind to slam him on the couch and heard and felt a loud pop in my chest. Thought I broke or cracked a rib but found out 4 days later after a lot of pain that it was dislocated. Went to a dr. And he popped it back in in about 3 min. Could breathe better immediately but still sore from the muscles being inflamed but getting better daily. It's been about 3 weeks since it happen and almost no pain now. Just a little
EDitor sez: See our (by now) generic advice to:
a) ice it,
b) strengthen the muscles that allowed it to happen
c) get a pain-stick, grope around to find the trigger points that are keeping you misaligned, and mash them.
One thing, and we should probably go back and re-edit some pages - don't overdo the icing. You can't, and shouldn't get rid of / suppress all inflammation around an injury. You just want to reduce it so its not an overreaction that hobbles you more than the injury itself. You need some inflammation for healing to happen.
Of course, by this point, we aren't talking to you, so much as we're talking to the next guy... :-) Hope your recovery is proceeding well.
