Wow, what a boring topic, right?
Angled USB cables... what next?
Well, hang on a second.
USB cables are needed with every device that has at least one USB port. Moreover, if you've noticed, most devices that you buy come with a power-block charger, and more and more of those blocks plug directly into an AC-mains power outlet (a wall socket or a power-bar), and then connect to your device(s) by means of a USB cable.
Several things happen. At the power bar, many charger blocks are not well-thought-out, so when you plug them in, they block two or three outlets. Part of the problem is usually that the charging cable (the one that goes to the device) sticks out to one side of the charger/power block and gets in the way.
Another thing that bugs us is at the device, where charging is done via USB. So a USB cable plugs into the side or bottom of our phone or tablet and sticks out inconveniently. We found that very unhandy with our phone, but we really got cranky when we bought a BlackBerry Playbook tablet, and the charging port was on the bottom. Then we got a nice leather case for it that folds out to become a stand/easel to prop up the tablet at a convenient viewing angle... unless we are trying to charge the device, in which case, the USB cable sticking straight out the bottom prevents the use of the stand/easel. CRUD! we said.
Well, ha ha! and Ha! Go take a look at http://www.usbfirewire.com/
Either search for "angle" or navigate to the USB cables and look for angled cables. They're great. Some have angled USB A connectors. So the USB A cable end that comes out of your device's power block and gets in the way of two more power-bar sockets can be replaced by one that comes out and immediately turns up or left or right, and doesn't block.
Some have angled USB Mini and Micro B connectors, so when they plug into the side or bottom of your device, the cable doesn't stick way out and get in the way - instead, the cable lies smoothly along one edge of your device, or wraps behind the device, out of the way. You can lay your device down or prop it in a holder and the cable is not thwarting you!
We bought several, and we've been thrilled. So simple, but they solved several niggling little problems we had been putting up with, for months and months.
